Full-Time Nanny - Carlsbad, CA

Super smart 7 year old boy in Carlsbad is in need of a full time nanny who will also act as his school aide (at a homeschool co-op center). He is autistic (“level 1”) and ADHD with a PDA profile (pathological demand avoidance). He is also profoundly gifted and requires a nanny who is fun, creative, active, and who is interested in learning and implementing the strategies that his parents have found work best for him. He is busy with a lot of activities, but also needs his down time to keep him regulated. Parents are very involved and have a wonderful team working to help him thrive and be himself! They do not do ABA therapy or strategies, if you have previous ABA experience that is ok, but must be open to learning a new approach. While there are challenges with him, he is also a fun loving little boy in need of a loving buddy!

Qualities in their ideal nanny include being intuitive, able to think on your feet, creativity, patience, and being proactive. If you have a background in teaching and would be interested in helping with his homeschool teaching that is a bonus, not required.

Note on family dynamic - parents are divorced and share custody so you will work at Mom’s house one week and Dad’s house the next week. Houses are only 10 min apart.

This is a long term role, please be able to commit to at least a year, ideally several.

Responsibilities:

During the last few weeks of summer, getting to know him and engaging him in fun activities, taking him on outings and to play dates once everyone is comfortable with that. During the school year he will be attending a homeschool enrichment center in Encinitas so you will act as his aide during the school day. This could entail helping him stay on task during online learning sessions, making sure he takes bathroom and snack breaks, and just generally being there for him in case anything is needed. If he has a rough day he doesn’t have to stay for the full school day, nanny can take him home. This schooling method gives a lot of flexibility for him to learn and also have the freedom he needs to regulate. After school the nanny will take him home and do the typical after school nanny duties, help him get a snack, take him to any scheduled extra curricular activities, play, etc.

A very important responsibility of this role is learning about his diagnoses and what his parents have found to work well for him, and implementing those strategies. Mom will teach you everything and provide resources. They have a bi-weekly meeting of his care team that you will attend during your work hours. This meeting is to review how things went the previous weeks, go over how to improve things or celebrate wins, and make sure everyone is on the same page in regards to his care and how to handle situations.

They also do daily tracking of certain behaviors and triggers, Mom will train you on this as well and it is very important to keep up with it daily.
